How To Impress A Girl On Your First Date

 A first date is as important as the first interview because either of them requires you to exhibit the best of you and either of their success depends on how you make or break the opportunity.

Dating's never been much of a phenomenon in Indian culture. We're more used to first dates/meetings turning into promises of lifelong commitment and discussions of how many children we'd be willing to have with each other. Luckily for us though, as a wise man once said, the times they are a-changing'. Young urban Indians are catching up with the dating game and while there may be less pressure as far as future wedding dates go, there's still a distinct possibility of it turning into a disastrous affair. Considering we haven't been at the dating game for long, we chalked up a few easy tips for you to pay heed to so that you get it right. Here goes nothing. Do Your ResearchChances are this isn't some girl you've met at random, and even if it is we live in the age of social media. This means you can secretly stalk her (in the least creepy way possible) and find out what tickles her fancy (for lack of a non-British sounding phrase for this sentiment). 

Ensure that You are Punctual

Do not fall for the age-old practice of girls being late for everything. However true it may seem to you, it isn’t so with every girl. If you reach the spot before or on time, the girl will know or feel that you are serious about her. Besides, getting early will only save you more time with the date. Be right outside her door to pick her up before the actual time. Irrespective of the time you reach at the spot to pick her up, do not expect her to be ready as well. Be patient if she is late.

Dress Decently

Wear only those clothes that are relevant to the date. A date may be a dinner together, movie, theatre, park, cafeteria, etc. Therefore, wear clothes according to the theme of the date. Apart from watching out for what you wear, make sure the dress is clean. All a girl expects from your dressing is that you look presentable enough. Groom yourself well. Ensure that you smell good, have shaved well and brushed teeth properly.

Carry a Present for Her

Girls love gifts though not all of them expect a diamond on the table. Instead of chasing expensive things, get something romantic such as a box of chocolates, a bouquet of flowers, a teddy bear, etc. Impress a girl by being on the romantic side on your first date.

Make an effort to find out what she seems to enjoy doing so that you can plan your date a little better right from location to activity. For example, if she seems to be rather outdoorsy then perhaps a picnic in the park would be much more impressive to her rather than a typical candlelit dinner at a restaurant. Being imaginative is more fruitful when you've done your research. Perfect Preparation Once you've done your digging, it's time to start preparing. Even if you're a go-with-the-flow kind of guy (which we totally respect) it's always good to have a basic outline of your plan so that you can account for the nerves that you're probably going to be suffering from on that day. 

Make sure you've got reservations where you need them, a basic idea of where you guys might go after if things go well, some of the questions you're going to ask her, some of the responses you might give and what you're going to wear. There's no need to go overboard with any of this but trust us, she'll take note of the effort you've put into this so if this girl is special, preparation is key. P.S. - This could also include something as basic as having a CD in your car that's filled with music you know she likes. Guy Grooming Who said being finicky about one's appearance is a feminine trait. The better groomed you are from the outside, the more confident you'll feel from within so don't hesitate to dapper up if you're that kind of man. Pick an outfit in advance, make sure your nails are clean, your teeth flossed and that you have a spare box of mints in case the night gets a little hotter than expected. While you're at it, make sure your beard is trimmed/ clean-shaven depending on what she likes, which you should have figured out in your research. 

Basically, hygiene and cleanliness matter more than your natural outward appearance though so make sure you give that priority. Let bad body odor or foul breath not be the reasons why your first date ended on a bad note. A Small GiftThis can go a long way and will do wonders for showing her how thoughtful you can be. The trick here, however, is to not go overboard in the slightest or you may scare her off. Honestly, we think a beautiful handpicked bunch of flowers is as simple and romantic as it gets but if you can think of something more personal without being overzealous then, by all means, go for it. 

Just remember, at the end of the day it's the thought and gesture that counts. ComplimentThis one is simple and the ideology it's based on is even simpler. All women love compliments and you need to shower her with them, just not so many that it comes across as insincere. As far as possible, try to be thoroughly honest about the ones you give as even if you're trying to make a good first impression, it's better to let some of the things occur naturally. It will save both you and her a lot of unnecessary future complications. Listen, Listen, Listen! This is most women's number one complaint about men. Either their eyes are 'wandering' or they're distracted by something or the other but it's extremely un-gentlemanly to not pay attention to what the woman you've brought out is saying. So yes, even if every word that's coming out of her mouth is horrendously boring, be a product of your good upbringing (or at least the good advice of this article) and make her feel as though you're hanging on to her every word. Eye ContactThis one is important and also difficult to get right. Too much steady eye contact will make her feel as though you're being a bit creepy and obsessive (god forbid she knows you've already stalked her on Facebook) but just the right amount will make her feel as though you're wonderfully attentive and she's the center of your world right then. Make Her Laugh

This one only applies to those who are certain, and we do mean certain, that they have a good sense of humor. All women love a man who can make them laugh or poke a little fun at themselves or her without being hurtful. 

Be A Gentleman

At the end of the date, if it's all gone well, we're all for going for the kill. Except by kill we mean kiss (we can hear the collective groaning but this is definitely for the best).

The thing is, if you really want to leave this girl waiting with bated breath for your return, you need to play it a little bit cool and very gentleman-like. So even if she's giving you all signs that she wants more; hold off. There will always be a next time.
